_DSC0203The Food Lab creates space for mainstream actors and frontrunners to meet and shape the green and fair food systems of tomorrow. In Uganda the Fort Portal Food Lab is being implemented by KRC in partnership with Hivos and IIED. The overall goal of the Fort Portal Food Lab is to contribute to a more conducive policy environment and laws that make the region’s food system more inclusive, sustainable, diverse, healthy, acceptable, green and affordable foods available to all. The food Change lab facilitates this co-creation by coming up with daring solutions that will be further developed with practitioners and scientists during online and offline events. The Rwenzori region where Fort Portal is located is rich in agricultural resources and has a tradition of exporting food – mainly via informal channels — to the capital and neighbouring countries. There is evidence that, despite this growth in food production and trade, the region is food insecure. As such there is a huge challenge for inclusive growth — ensuring a positive link between urbanisation, food and nutrition security, for the local economy and ecology of Fort Portal’s rural hinterland.
