NEWS BITE! ORUGALI DIALOGUE: Women to tackle Food Security and migration

image001KRC in partnership with Uganda Women Network (UWONET) organized the orugali1 food fest and dialogue during the 1st Regional women’s week in Western Uganda. The main objective of the food fest was to bring together community members to dialogue on key factors that promote resilience of rural people particularly women to tackle the food security and migration challenge. The critical issues that emerged from the dialogue included: climate change as the main factor affecting production and diversity of nutritious foods, lack of skills for food preparation, competing households economic needs compromise food security, the current discussions on land reform may force households to migrate and escalate the food insecurity situation, and lastly, lack of family planning among majority of women with less final say in decision making cause a threat to food security – as this increases pressure on land and food.
